In a significant escalation, Ukraine has embarked on one of its largest drone offensives against Russia since the conflict began, as reported by Russian authorities. This assault has resulted in the deaths of at least six individuals and sparked a substantial blaze at a distribution warehouse near Moscow. The Russian Defence Ministry has asserted that it intercepted 1,478 Ukrainian drones within a 24-hour timeframe, marking it as the highest number recorded in a single day, though these figures remain independently unverified.
Sergei Sobyanin, the Mayor of Moscow, indicated that approximately 600 drones targeted the Moscow region, with 201 being reportedly destroyed. In this region, one fatality was confirmed. A significant fire erupted at a Wildberries distribution center near Podolsk, situated roughly 25 miles south of central Moscow. This warehouse, occupying around 250,000 square meters, suffered severe damage and was rendered inoperative, according to Ukraine’s military. Ukrainian officials have claimed that several facilities associated with Wildberries are targeted due to their alleged role in military logistics.
The attacks underscore Ukraine’s advancing long-range strike capacity, while Russia persists in heavily deploying drones and missiles against Ukrainian cities and infrastructure. Within Ukraine, Russian strikes have claimed at least seven lives, including casualties in Kryvyi Rih and the Sumy region. A missile assault on Kyiv led to injuries for six individuals and ignited fires, notably at a major book market where several businesses reportedly lost their entire inventory.
In a related incident, a Spanish fighter jet, part of a NATO patrol, shot down a suspected Russian drone after it breached Romanian airspace, as per NATO officials. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has accused Russia of consistently targeting civilian infrastructure, stating that Moscow had launched more than 1,550 attack drones, nearly 1,560 guided bombs, and 62 missiles against Ukraine in the previous week alone.
This intensification of hostilities comes as both nations amplify their reliance on long-range weaponry, which heightens the potential for casualties and destruction extending far beyond the existing front lines.
