Russia’s Ambassador to India, Denis Alipov, has directly countered Donald Trump’s claim that India will stop buying Russian oil, stating plainly that the supplies are “very beneficial for the Indian economy and the welfare of the Indian people.”
Trump had claimed PM Modi “assured” him of a “big stop” to the oil trade, a comment that sparked significant speculation. The US has already imposed 50% tariffs on India, half of which are a penalty for these very oil purchases.
India’s MEA also pushed back, asserting that its energy policy is guided by the “national objective” of protecting its consumers.
In his address, Alipov not only defended the oil trade but also unveiled a major defense expansion. He reaffirmed the 60-year military partnership, which he called the “backbone” of India’s armed forces.
This new defense push includes offers for the Su-57 fighter, drones, and advanced radar, demonstrating Russia’s intent to deepen strategic ties, regardless of US claims or pressure.
