Addressing the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Hungarian President András Baka expressed concerns over a “crisis of trust” facing the international organization. Baka highlighted the importance of the UN’s capacity to act and called for fairness in treating member states while consistently enforcing common principles. He specifically addressed the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, condemning Russia’s actions as a violation of the UN Charter. Baka reaffirmed Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, insisting that any diplomatic efforts to end the conflict must honor Ukraine’s recognized borders.
In addition to his focus on Ukraine, President Baka spoke on the pressing need to uphold international humanitarian law in the Middle East. He advocated for the safe and uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid in the region. On the issue of migration, he stated Hungary’s commitment to combating irregular migration while ensuring respect for human dignity and protections for refugees.
