Christopher Nolan has addressed the controversy surrounding his decision to incorporate modern English dialogue in his latest film adaptation of The Odyssey. This creative choice, he explained, aims to bridge the emotional gap for today’s viewers, allowing them to connect more deeply with the timeless epic.

After the movie’s trailer was unveiled, it quickly became a topic of discussion due to the use of contemporary language by characters set in ancient Greece. Nolan responded to critics by stating that he prioritized emotional impact over historical accuracy in dialogue. He described this decision as straightforward, though he acknowledged it might stir debate among audiences.

The film is an adaptation of the classic tale, chronicling Odysseus’ arduous journey back home following the Trojan War. In this rendition, Matt Damon takes on the role of Odysseus, with Anne Hathaway portraying Penelope, Tom Holland as Telemachus, and Robert Pattinson playing Antinous.

Nolan’s adaptation of The Odyssey is marked as one of his most ambitious projects, boasting a diverse and expansive ensemble cast. Alongside the leading actors, the film features performances by Zendaya, Charlize Theron, and Lupita Nyong’o. The movie is set to premiere in Indian cinemas on July 16, with a subsequent international release planned.
