by admin477351

Germany and Greece are in discussions to collaborate on a future submarine construction program, focusing on the advanced Type 212 CD submarines. These talks took place during a meeting between German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius and his Greek counterpart, Nikos Dendias, at the Crete Firing Range. Pistorius emphasized Greece’s status as a trusted partner and suggested that the submarine construction could potentially occur within Greece.

The Hellenic Navy has outlined plans to consider a new submarine program post-2030, with vessel selection discussions anticipated to commence after Greece’s national elections in 2027. The dialogue between the two countries underscores a mutual interest in bolstering defense ties through joint military training, enhanced operational coordination, and the acquisition of compatible military equipment.

Ministers Pistorius and Dendias also explored cooperation between Greek and German forces within the Kosovo Force (KFOR). Discussions extended to pilot training initiatives in Kalamata, alongside Greece’s interest in acquiring the IRIS-T SLS air defense missile systems.

The engagement between Greece and Germany reflects broader efforts to expand defense cooperation and explore opportunities for joint military production and training. Both countries are focused on strengthening their defense capabilities and operational integration, aiming to enhance security and stability in the region.
