In a bid to enhance security cooperation, Greek Citizen Protection Minister Michalis Chrysochoidis and Turkish Interior Minister Mustafa Ciftci convened in Athens to address cross-border crime and bolster bilateral efforts. This meeting at Greece’s Ministry of Citizen Protection followed a high-level Greece–Türkiye Supreme Cooperation Council session held in Ankara earlier this year.
The discussions between Chrysochoidis and Ciftci centered on tackling organized crime, terrorism, extremism, human trafficking, and drug smuggling. A significant focus was also placed on dismantling criminal networks that exploit undocumented migrants and engage in money laundering associated with illegal activities. Chrysochoidis highlighted the necessity of enhanced information sharing and operational coordination between Greek and Turkish security agencies.
During the meeting, Chrysochoidis expressed concerns about Turkish nationals allegedly linked to criminal groups operating within Greece. In response, Ciftci acknowledged the existing level of cooperation and expressed Turkey’s support for expanding joint efforts, especially in strengthening security measures and disrupting human trafficking networks.
This dialogue represents ongoing efforts by Greece and Türkiye to address mutual security challenges, despite their longstanding differences. Both ministers underscored the importance of working together to combat shared threats and improve regional security.
