US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has arrived in Greece to engage in discussions aimed at bolstering strategic and defense ties between the two nations. His visit coincides with the sixth round of the Greece-US Strategic Dialogue, a crucial event scheduled for Wednesday at the Greek Foreign Ministry. These talks are set to cover a range of topics, including regional security, defense, energy, shipping, technology, trade, investment, and law enforcement.
Defense cooperation is anticipated to be a key focus of the discussions. The United States and Greece are expected to solidify agreements involving the acquisition of missiles and self-protection systems for Greece’s F-35 aircraft and upgraded F-16 Viper jets. Additionally, there will likely be talks on support for military equipment, such as Black Hawk and MH-60R helicopters.
Beyond defense, the dialogue is set to include agreements on various other fronts. These include the management of archaeological material, collaboration between the Greek Armed Forces and the US National Guard, and the mutual recognition of professional certificates for seafarers.
Rubio is also slated to meet with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. Their discussions are expected to address strategies for reducing dependence on China while enhancing cooperative efforts between Greece and the United States.
