Lidl Hungary has launched its largest warehouse in the country with the opening of a new logistics center in Kiskunfélegyháza. This expansion comes after an investment of nearly 60 billion forints, equivalent to about €162 million. The facility is poised to support around 70 Lidl stores throughout Hungary, enhancing the retailer’s supply chain efficiency.
Spanning over 83,000 square meters, the logistics hub is a significant development for the region, creating more than 400 jobs. Lidl is also planning to expand its workforce by hiring an additional 50 employees in the near future. The center is well-equipped with 194 loading docks and a 24,000-square-meter refrigerated section, ensuring that it can handle a substantial volume of goods.
Incorporating sustainable technology, the logistics center features a 9,000-square-meter rooftop solar installation. Additionally, it uses waste heat from the refrigeration system for underfloor heating, showcasing Lidl’s commitment to energy efficiency. Surrounding the facility is a 10,000-square-meter area dedicated to biodiversity, further highlighting the company’s environmental considerations.
With plans to dispatch approximately 4,500 pallets of goods daily, the center is set to significantly bolster Lidl’s national distribution capabilities. The retailer currently operates 220 stores across Hungary and sources nearly 60% of its products from local suppliers. This new logistics center is anticipated to not only support Lidl’s ongoing growth but also fortify its domestic market presence.
