Germany Supports Montenegro’s EU Membership Progress, Citing Significant Advancements

Germany has voiced its support for Montenegro’s efforts to join the European Union, acknowledging the country’s advancements in the accession process. German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul commended Montenegro’s progress following a meeting with Montenegrin Foreign Minister Ervin Ibrahimovic.

The discussions took place during the Berlin Process in Montenegro, where both ministers highlighted the importance of regional cooperation, reconciliation, and ongoing reforms. EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos was also in attendance, underscoring the significance of the meeting within the broader context of EU enlargement.

Montenegro has been on a path toward EU membership for over two decades, positioning itself among other Western Balkan countries aspiring to join the bloc. With continued reforms and adherence to EU criteria, Montenegro aims to complete its accession process in the near future.

Wadephul emphasized that countries meeting the EU’s membership standards should have a clear path to joining the union. He praised Montenegro as a potential role model for other nations in the Western Balkans, highlighting the importance of sustained efforts and reforms in achieving EU integration.
