Highlighting the urgency of the situation, President Sulyok, in May, sought the expertise of the Council of Europe’s advisory body on constitutional law. He requested their guidance to navigate the constitutional issues while ensuring adherence to European constitutional standards. The Venice Commission responded promptly to the request, agreeing to prioritize the examination of Hungary’s constitutional matters. As part of their efforts, the commission has initiated consultations in Budapest, aiming to collect comprehensive insights into the situation. The Hungarian Presidential Office has expressed optimism regarding the involvement of the Venice Commission.
